How to Keep Your Workplace Safe with AEDs

As a part of our ESTCO Safety & Protective line, we are happy to extend even more information about how you can supply your workplaces for maximum safety.

Keeping a workplace AED (Automated External Defibrillator) compliant is crucial for maintaining a safe working environment, as nearly 10,000 cardiac arrests per year occur at work.

To ensure your workplace remains AED compliant, follow these simple steps:

  1. Have a designated person dedicated to AED supply & maintenance: Appoint someone in your workplace to be responsible for the AED & emergency station. They should be in charge of keeping track of the AED's maintenance,  performing routine checks, and ensuring it is always ready for use.

  2. Develop a standard AED maintenance plan: Create a maintenance schedule for the AED and ensure that it is followed strictly. This should include regular checks of the AED, replacement of batteries and pads, and training for employees on how to use the device.

  3. Place AEDs in accessible locations: Ensure that AEDs are located in visible and easily accessible locations throughout your workplace. This will help employees respond quickly in an emergency.

  4. Train employees in AED use: Train employees on how to use an AED so they are prepared to respond in an emergency. Provide regular refresher training to ensure that everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.

  5. Keep AEDs up to date: Keep your AEDs up to date with the latest software and hardware updates to ensure that they are working correctly.

  6. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations: Ensure that your workplace is compliant with any relevant regulations and guidelines relating to AEDs, such as the American Heart Association guidelines.

By following these steps, you can help ensure that your workplace remains AED compliant and that your employees are prepared to respond to an emergency.
